Shares of both rose last week on reports that Schwab (ticker: SCHW) wants to buy TD Ameritrade (AMTD). If regulators sign off the combined company would have more than $5 trillion in assets and vast scale across asset management, advisory services, and trading. And Schwab stock would probably benefit long term.
